I'm sure many people who uses computers encounter this at least once in their life.
This are the usual senario:
The computer was working happily all the while and then all of the sudden, it unable to boot up, keeps going into the booting sequence and retarts.
You bring the system back to the vendor, they usually tells you that the hard disk is faulty and you have to replace it, the sad news is your data is gone! All those photos, document, mp3 etc... you have accumilated over the years, is no more!
Well the truth is, most likely the hard disk is ok, it's only that the files system is a bit mess up.
Here's what happened
A hard disk is like a file cabinate, image when you keeps taking files and putting file back into the file cabinate, after a while the files in the file cabinate becomes messy. The files becomes disorganised and is place all over the place. This is exactly what happened to a hard disk.
When a computer boots up, it needs to locate several files in a certain location, if these file are not found at that specific location, if will not be able to boot up, thus causing the system to keep rebooting itselves.
Although about 10-15% of these kind of error is attributed to disk failure or virus attacks, more than 80% is due to the above mention cause.
Solution
Take out the hard disk and connects it to another computer, run check disk (Error checking) and defragmentation, then put the hard disk back and it will boot up nicely.
Try it out, the next time this happens.
Prevention
Run check disk (error checking) once every 3 month and defragmentation every 1-2 month.
To access these two tools (error checking, defragment now)
Right click on Local Disk (C) and select the Properties at the menu, click on the Tools tab, you will see the two tools there.
